Eero Aarnio Keinu chair, fabric upholstery
Modern rocking chair by Eero Aarnio
A sample piece of Keinu rocking chair with fabric upholstery.
Rocking chair has been a hugely popular piece of furniture in Finland. At the beginning of the 20th century it was even considered a status symbol in both peasant and city homes and it was often the most comfortable and valuable seat in the house. In many households it was also the first piece of furniture which was purchased rather than self-made.
Sitting and rocking in a rocking chair is a relaxing activity, and it is also said to have positive health effects. The heart rate drops and the mind calms down, when the steady movement of the swing gives you rhythm.
It's no wonder that professor Eero Aarnio, who renewed the concept of the chair in the 1960s with his Ball Chair, also wanted to draw a new, modern version of the rocking chair. The first sketches of Keinu were created already in the 1980s, and the chair, refined to its current form over the decades, was released as part of the Studio Eero Aarnio collection in 2004.
The polished stainless steel bent frame curves beautifully, giving a smooth and long range of motion. It is comfortable to sink into the seat and it has a very ergonomic shape.
Keinu is a modern decorator's dream chair that is both pleasing to the eye and functional. Placing it in the living room or, for example, in the company lounge can cause only one problem; who gets to the chair first?
Keinu, renewed in 2022, has a more environmentally friendly, polished stainless steel frame instead of the earlier chrome frame.
The Keinu chair is made exclusively in Finland.
